Ovar’s Drum
At midday, the apartment block is relatively quiet. Kids are in school or
day care, and most of the adults are working in their fields. Six-year-old
Ovar, however, does not go to school. Seriously disabled, he has not
learned to talk and rarely meets the eyes of those around him, but he will
improvise a drum out of items-at-hand. Today, he plants himself in the open
back door of his family’s home, intent on his beat.
